Investing in Team Health

How to Fund Workplace Relationship Support at Your Nonprofit

Workplace relationships are often the heartbeat of a nonprofit organization — yet they’re rarely addressed directly. At Time2Meet, we help organizations strengthen team dynamics, reduce interpersonal conflict, and improve retention. While our services are not always tied to a specific program, there are multiple ways nonprofits can fund this critical work. This guide outlines how to position our services to align with existing funding streams.

Framing Your Need

To align our services with fundable categories, nonprofits should consider framing the work in one or more of the following ways:
- Capacity building
- Staff well-being / burnout prevention
- Organizational development
- DEI and racial equity initiatives
- Trauma-informed workplace practices
- Leadership coaching or HR transformation
- Retention and workforce stability

Government Grants to Explore

 1. Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS): Offers grants for capacity building, workforce stabilization, and trauma-informed care.
2. City of Chicago Department of Family & Support Services (DFSS): Funds staff wellness, DEI efforts, and organizational development.
3. HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration): Supports workforce wellness and burnout prevention in community health orgs.
4. SAMHSA: Offers funding for trauma-informed and behavioral health initiatives that may include organizational supports.

Private Foundations to Consider

 1. Michael Reese Health Trust
2. Chicago Community Trust
3. Grand Victoria Foundation
4. Forefront – Mission Sustainability Initiative
5. The Brinson Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Lloyd A. Fry Foundation, and others with capacity-building portfolios

Smart Strategies for Inclusion in Proposals

 - Include our services under staff development or retention plans
- Allocate discretionary or technical assistance dollars
- Tie our work to racial equity, trauma-informed care, or leadership initiatives
- Ask funders about flexibility to cover organizational health work

Sample Language You Can Use

"As part of our commitment to staff retention and a healthy organizational culture, we are partnering with Time2Meet to provide workplace relationship support services. This investment in team dynamics and trauma-informed communication will increase our ability to serve our community effectively and sustainably."
